How to Complete Companies House Identity Verification in 2025

From 18 November 2025, Companies House will introduce mandatory identity verification (IDV) for all new directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and, equivalent persons, such as LLP members, general partners, or managing officers. Existing directors, LLP members and PSCs will be required to confirm their identity verification when submitting their next annual confirmation statement, within a 12-month transition period.

Why it matters

The new Companies House IDV rules represent one of the most significant compliance changes in recent years. They are intended to prevent fraud, increase transparency, and strengthen trust in UK companies.

Missing deadlines could mean rejected filings, financial penalties, or even being barred from acting as a director.

Companies House IDV Requirements: 2025 Checklist for Directors and PSCs

For Directors, PSCs, and LLP Members

1. Understand who must comply

From November 2025, IDV will affect almost everyone with a significant role in a UK company. It’s important to know which category you fall into and when your deadline applies.

  • All new directors and LLP members (from 18 Nov 2025)
  • All existing directors and LLP members (by first confirmation statement after 18 Nov 2025)
  • All new PSCs (within 14 days of registration)
  • All existing PSCs (by transitional deadlines)

2. Choose your verification route

  • Direct with Companies House (via GOV.UK One Login)
  • Through your ACSP (that’s us)
💡 Tip: Using an ACSP can be faster and more secure. We manage the process, check your documents, and ensure everything is filed correctly.

3. Gather required information

  • Full legal name and any former names
  • Date of birth
  • Current and previous addresses
  • A unique email address for each individual
⚠️ Common pitfall: Mismatched or outdated information (e.g. old addresses) can delay your verification.

4. Prepare valid ID documents (must be current and original)

  • Passport (a biometric one is recommended)
  • Driving license

5. Verify your identity

  • Complete verification before your deadline
  • Receive your Companies House Personal Verification Code (PVC) (11 characters)
👉 Why this matters: Your personal code links you to all your company roles — one verification covers everything.

6. Keep your personal code safe

  • Use it for all your company roles — no need to re-verify each time
  • Share securely with your ACSP for filings

7. Stay compliant

  • Ensure all directors and PSCs in your business complete IDV
  • Update your company records promptly if details change
  • Work with your ACSP to manage filings and avoid penalties
💡 Tip: Compliance isn’t one-and-done — keep your records up to date, especially if directors or PSCs change.

Work with an ACSP to simplify IDV

As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, we manage the IDV process end-to-end — from checking documents to meeting deadlines. That means no stress, no missed filings, and peace of mind that your company is compliant.
